The differences between the ideal or idealized and the actual operation undoubtedly generated tension, conflict, and dynamism. From this perspective, even if the idealized working scheme for the Hassa Architects' Guild (Hâssa Mimarlar Ocağı) is accepted as correct, it was not effective in the late 18th century, the historical period chosen by the book for its examination of the subject. Undoubtedly, if one sets aside the historical narrative shaped by the organization's status-dependent order, the chief architect-apprentice relations, and the degree of the chief architect's control and influence over every architectural activity in the empire, which is idealized and presented as if everything was in order, the question "How was architectural organization shaped in the classical period of the Ottoman Empire?" has not yet been addressed. For this reason, attempts to answer the question "What kind of result would emerge if architectural organization in the late Ottoman period were examined?" find their place in the book with a perspective beyond idealized schemes. In the first section of the book, based on available information, the aim was to examine the transformations in construction organization from the late 18th century onwards by making comparisons with practices from the classical period. The organization in the provinces between the second half of the 18th century and the Tanzimat period, the regulation of architectural revenues and construction organization after the Tanzimat, and the gaps created by the system in Ottoman construction organization are discussed. In the book, events related to the construction environment are specialized and explained under subheadings with examples that reinforce the subject. The aim was to develop different topics, examples, and discourses from the sources written and published on this subject to date, and to write what has not been said or written, thus doing what has not been done before. The book discusses the construction environment and architectural activities from approximately 200 years ago.

The similarity of the architectural drawing technique in the Ottoman world to the traditional Ottoman arts of calligraphy and miniature painting reveals its connection to the mindset and traditional way of thinking that enabled the transfer of what was imagined onto paper in every instance.

The use of calligraphic tools in transferring architectural drawings to paper makes it possible to read the traces of this art's aesthetic and technical features in spatial design. On the other hand, the relationship between the choices in miniature painting regarding how to view nature and the built physical environment and architectural expression techniques is also evident.

Prose (inshā'), which supports both the use of calligraphic tools and the expression of technical drawings, is an important indicator that architectural design cannot be considered separately from writing, written material, and writing tools. Through the effects of beautiful writing tools and writing on the design thinking behind architectural drawings, it is possible to interpret the traces of modes of seeing in the Ottoman world within architectural narrative through traditional arts. When this interpretation is made not through Ottoman monumental structures but through the designs of ordinary structures whose drawings and written documents are found in archives, it establishes another story, differing from other texts that describe Ottoman Architecture.

Instead of examining Ottoman Architecture through familiar methodologies such as plan typologies, function, and stylistic differentiation in light of successive historical processes, this book questions it based on writing, written documents, language, and modes of seeing. Anomalies and uncertainties within this order confirm the existence of a community. Every attempt by community members to circumvent the rules strengthens our understanding of the Ottoman social structure. In other words, every irregular action and differentiation confirms the rule set by the Ottomans. There is no competent aspect that allows for the perception of a perfect and rule-abiding community structure in society. What supports the understanding of the community is its difference or opposition within society. Differences and oppositions are important elements that bring vitality and cultural richness to the Ottoman community.
