In this context, I turned to Mozart's operas. His last opera, 'The Magic Flute', particularly caught my interest. I observed that the fundamental concepts forming the fabric of the story mirrored Mozart's personality. The characters in The Magic Flute are very different from each other. Most of these different characters are gathered within Mozart's personality. Both perceived humans as living beings with flesh and soul, not isolated from their society, and expressed their personalities and relationships with each other through the language of music. This comparison not only sheds light on the life perspectives of two great composers who lived in different eras and under different conditions but also reveals the societal changes that occurred at the end of the 18th century and throughout the 19th century.

<strike></strike>

Kıvılcım Yıldız wrote "The Music of the Enlightenment"...

"The Music of the Enlightenment - The Classical Period and Its Masters," published by Topos Pocket Books, which began its publishing life with a music series, is authored by Kıvılcım Yıldız. Erdem Çöloğlu, who wrote an afterword for the book, states: "The Classical style in music coincides with a period when the rational thought represented by the Enlightenment gained strength, and historicity, which would gain its identity in the middle of the next century, emerged, reflecting these values. On one hand, it devalues the counterpoint technique at the core of the previous style and the polyphonic textures it created as an engineering effort contrary to the prevailing principle of simplicity of the period. On the other hand, in an environment of relationships that 19th-century theorists would define as dialectical, it places functional tonality, the increasingly dominant phenomenon of the period, at the center of instrumental music. Of course, it develops new techniques for these purposes. Simplification on the harmonic plane occurs with homophonic textures, where melody and accompaniment are derived from the same sound material, replacing polyphonic textures. In this way, a new hierarchy emerges, guided by functional tonality and 'functional' form. This hierarchy allows for the design of much wider tonal regions than what we observe in the Baroque style. The possibility of modulation to distant tonalities brought by the new tuning system allows for longer work durations and enables the establishment of contrast and similarity relationships between large plans in the structure. Thus, as a result of the interaction between this hierarchy and the dialectical relationship, the sonata form, which is the common formal source of leading genres such as symphony, concerto, and sonata of the period, is born and develops.

Kıvılcım Yıldız describes this process in detail and avoids referring to technical musical terms like sonata form, theme, and tonality as abstract/cold terms. Instead, she addresses them as an organic part of music history, placing them within a historical and social framework and emphasizing the historical continuity we mentioned above. Furthermore, she demonstrates that changes in supply and demand dynamics lie at the root of musical design and technical choices."

Topos Pocket Books began its publishing life with the "Music Series," and Aykut Köksal's work, "Baroque Transformation," became the first book in the series to hit the shelves. Köksal, who reads the Baroque era as a story of "modernization," first gives a general overview of Western music from its beginnings to the pre-Baroque period under the title "A General Look at Western Music from its Beginning to the Pre-Baroque" before delving into the Baroque era. He then examines Baroque music through periods, countries, and schools, and analyzes the production of individual composers. Another feature of the book is that the periods are discussed not only with text but also with visuals. The book's design was carried out by Ersun Pekin. Pekin transforms the text from a dry music history into an enjoyable read. Mehmet Nemutlu, in his Afterword to Baroque Transformation, evaluates the book as follows: "Aykut Köksal's Baroque Transformation, The Journey of Music's Modernization, is not just a conventional music history text written for specialists. It is also a guiding text that traces the 'Baroque journey' as a whole, with its innovations, significant breakthroughs, roles, changing intellectual background, and the cross-connections between them. It is concise, highlighting the productions, attitudes, and relationships that made the most meaningful contributions to the era. It sheds light on the social, individual, and cultural relationships behind a production of such intensity that it would amaze us even today. Looking at the structure of the book, it is seen that a cross-reading has been made in the context of countries and local cultures. The components that form the identity of Baroque music are discussed with the degree and weight of each's contribution. When it comes to the 17th century, a significant change is observed in the book's systematics: developments previously explained under topic headings and thematic subheadings are summarized under the names of certain composers from this point on. Towards the end of the book, a panoramic view of the entire Baroque period is reached through Corelli, Vivaldi, Rameau, Telemann, Handel, and Bach. This also indicates how Baroque modernization brought individual musical writing to the center."

Are you ready for a journey you absolutely must take in your lifetime?

This is a book whose notes are heard through words.

A reunion for classical music enthusiasts and connoisseurs.

More than just reading its sentences, you will hold hands with them. The music of Charles Ives, Henry Cowell, John Cage, Earle Brown, and Morton Feldman, who, with the ease of not being burdened by historical baggage, pushed openness to its limits, created new sound environments, and explored new representation possibilities instead of traditional notation, is discussed in the interviews by examining individual works.

In the third section of the interviews, the doctrinized state of the open work determines the main theme in European modernists of the 1950s.
