In this context, the study contributes to architectural historiography in two main aspects: Firstly, this work, which is among the few studies examining the formation and transformation of the modernist architecture and art approach and production in Turkey during this period, has made a significant contribution to historical research on the mid-20th century, which has not yet yielded many products, from a Turkish perspective. On the other hand, by examining the architecture of public buildings from the broad framework of artistic production, it offers a perspective that evaluates the social meanings of the period's architectural and art products within an interconnected framework.

The study's structure is shaped by the formation and practice of the idea of collaboration between architecture and art in Turkey during the post-World War II period. The study examines the intellectual development of this collaboration by investigating how art was incorporated into architectural education and publications and by evaluating discussions among architects and artists about collaboration. It also reveals the process by which this idea was realized in practical collaborations through the products of the active agents, interpreting these products within the effort to establish a dialogue between architecture, art, and society. This study, aiming to uncover the main lines of the architecture-art relationship, which was widely practiced but not sufficiently discussed in the architecture of the period, also provides a conceptual introduction to the relationship between modern architecture and art production, which gained strength in the international arena in the mid-20th century, and its local context from a more general perspective.
This thesis, which received the METU Social Sciences Institute Thesis Award and the Kalbiye Tansel Publication Award and was published in Turkish, will fill a significant gap in Turkish architectural history writing in a research area that has not been sufficiently prominent until now, both in terms of its subject and its temporal framework; its proposed theoretical framework will also be guiding for similar studies. With the hope that it will guide many studies examining architecture within interdisciplinary frameworks…
Prof. Dr. T.
