mimarlar-odasi-tarihinden-portreler-besim-cecener
Portraits from the History of the Chamber of Architects: Besim Çeçener

We are presenting the Besim Çeçener book in the “Portraits from the History of the Chamber of Architects” series, which features prominent members of our profession who have contributed to architecture in various ways and left their mark. The introductory articles in this book, which convey the memories and thoughts of different individuals who had close associations with Besim Çeçener, whose lives intertwined with his at various points, and with whom he shared experiences, allow us to get to know him more intimately.

In addition to an unpublished interview by Şener Özler from our archives, we also wanted to conduct an interview with our colleague Engin Çeçener, who was always by her husband's side, contributed to all his works for many years, and worked together with him, and include her efforts in this melting pot. We have at hand Besim Çeçener's writings, in which he recounts the details of his working life at different times, especially the difficulties he encountered during his time at the Conservation Board. We have also included a compilation, particularly composed of his own statements. Although there are repetitions in the narratives, we thought each text was important for the integrity of the picture because each focuses on a different detail.

Cataloging Besim Çeçener's extensive body of work, some of which has been published as books and some in magazines, required a significant effort in itself. We especially aimed to compile his articles published in the Chamber of Architects' publications that had not appeared in his previous books, making them more accessible to readers.

The album section of our book features a selection of images, including his impressions of Yalova Çukurköy, where he spent happy days in the last stages of his life with friendships spanning different years, visuals from these special moments, images from his exhibition opened at the Chamber of Architects Yıldız Outpost building, and other paintings.

We reflect on what we can transmit from the past to the future, what each of us can achieve in different environments with our accumulated knowledge, our experiences from various collaborations, how we can compile these, and how we can make them meaningful. We are striving to develop the “Portraits from the History of the Chamber of Architects” series within this framework. We believe that the Besim Çeçener book serves as a good example.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0523/3950/7395/files/besim-cecener-kapak.new_page-0001-677x1024.jpg?v=1732790682
