He completed primary school at Kanuni Süleyman Primary School in central Trabzon. After attending Cumhuriyet Middle School, he spent his high school years at Erzurum Construction Technical High School. He graduated in 1976. In the same year, he took university entrance exams and entered the Infrastructure Department of Ankara Higher Technical Teacher's School. He graduated in 1981 and started working as a technical teacher at Adana Construction Technical High School. He got married in February 1982. In 1983, he was assigned to open the Surveying and Cadastre Department in Vocational High Schools and attended courses in Ankara for a certain period. He pioneered the opening of this department in Adana.\u003c\/span\u003eBetween 1984 and 1987, he served as head of department. In February 1987, he started working as a lecturer in the construction department of Gaziantep Vocational School, which was then called METU Gaziantep Faculty of Engineering and is now Gaziantep University. He has been serving as a lecturer in the same department ever since.
