Product Description
From the mid-19th century onwards, during the period also known as Westernization in the relevant literature, the urban space in Anatolian cities, which was known to be static until then, began to be reshaped by numerous and varying internal and external factors. In this process, new functional areas that began to appear in the city changed its structure and spatial organization. However, since secondary railway lines could not be established in Anatolia, caravan routes and railways inevitably complemented each other, and settlements along the old trade routes generally maintained their local or regional market characteristics, and even saw an increase in their trade capacity. In this development, although differentiation in social stratification emerged with population growth, it was not significantly reflected in the qualities of housing and its fabric from the previous period.
The traditional fabric in Ayaş and Beypazarı is examined in this book as prominent examples in this regard. Within this scope, the settlement features and the original physical and spatial characteristics of the existing traditional housing and its fabric in Ayaş and Beypazarı have also been identified.
