Product Description
As can be seen in the text of the book, we deemed it useful to provide a brief explanation of the wooden lattices used in traditional houses in our country.
Especially among peoples adhering to the Muslim faith, elements called KAFES (lattices) were used, typically in the form of thin wooden screens, applied as double sashes that slide vertically upwards to the height of the window and open outwards as side-pivoting sashes, with the aim of preventing the interior life of the building from being seen from outside.
Today, lattices, which have almost lost their original meaning, in addition to their religious purpose, allow for the ventilation of interior spaces by partly or fully opening the inner window sashes, and also provide protection from intense sunlight.
However, it might be necessary to apply them in contemporary buildings to revive a longing for the past.
In Istanbul, it is possible to find some sympathetic examples in contemporary buildings along the Bosphorus.
