Product Description
Mosques, which unite believers around the oneness of Allah and serve to strengthen feelings of unity, solidarity, and brotherhood, are among the holiest places in Islam. Considered the tangible symbols of Islam, these structures are the most prominent indicators reflecting the Muslim identity and cultural affiliation of the places where they are built.
With the conquest of Trabzon, significant steps were taken in the Turkification and Islamization process of the region; parallel to the increase in the Muslim population, numerous mosques were built both in the city center and in rural settlements. This process played a decisive role in shaping the architectural fabric of the region.
The subject of this study is mosques built with traditional materials, techniques, and methods in the Araklı district of Trabzon province. This work was produced from a doctoral thesis completed in the Department of Islamic History and Arts at Ondokuz Mayıs University.
"I owe a debt of gratitude to my advisor, Prof. Dr. Eyüp Nefes, for his guidance with his knowledge and experience, and for his valuable contributions and directions at every stage of the study."
