Product Description

There is a reciprocal relationship between the city and people. First, people build cities that align with their emotions and thoughts. Then, cities influence people by transmitting the emotions and thoughts that shaped their creation to future generations. Perhaps this is why one of the first questions we ask when we want to get to know someone is, "Where are you from?" It's as if those living in the same city are in agreement. Their habits, behaviors, and lifestyles are similar. Because people are influenced not only by the cultural fabric of the cities they live in, but also by their economic and social structure, and even climatic conditions. People who sustain their lives by utilizing the opportunities of their environment grow up with the life standards of that environment. People influenced by their environment have responsibilities and duties towards the environment, the city, and other people. The most important of these responsibilities is the awareness of leaving the city, inherited from their ancestors and with a history of thousands of years, as a livable place for future generations. This book, created through the superior efforts and endeavors of those who bear this sense of responsibility, is the embodiment of archival texts and interviews that describe the Armenians of Devrek in various aspects, from the 1800s to the early years of the Republic. This study, based on interviews, archival documents, and scientific research to shed light on the historical and cultural heritage of Devrek, one of the settlements with an important past in the Western Black Sea region, has also produced a significant body of literature on Devrek's history and culture. The contributions of the Armenian population to the city, ranging from art to literature, from history to economy, and their impact on the region, have been presented with intense effort. With this book, prepared as an indicator of social responsibility in the city or region, it is aimed to fill an important gap in the transmission of Devrek's history, culture, economy, and social structure, and to highlight a different perspective on our history from various angles, rather than focusing on "us" and "me" from a social point of view.
