Product Description

From the discovery of steel, an alloy of iron, structures have extensively utilized steel as a binding element for structural and decorative purposes. In the second half of the 19th century, cast iron could be refined after being liquefied, leading to significant production of cast steel. With the advent of electric furnaces in the early 20th century, cast steel production increased, resulting in considerable advancements in modern steel construction techniques. The discovery and use of steel in structures spurred the exploration of new construction methods and the development of new structural systems. The use of steel in buildings brought numerous positive outcomes. Heavy walls in structures were replaced by lightweight steel skeletons, making buildings lighter, which in turn allowed for taller structures and larger spans. Steel is a material that offers architects and engineers unique possibilities such as design power, efficiency, and sculptural expression. The purpose of this publication is to introduce large-span steel structure technologies to architects and architecture students and to provide information that we believe can assist them in drawing their projects.
