Product Description

This book, one of the original works prepared by researcher-writer Oral Onur from Edirne before his death (October 29, 2013), has been published in memory of my father, Oral Onur, to introduce the brief history of Turkish Empire (*) style architectural structures in Edirne.

Towards the end of the first half of the 19th century, structures reflecting the influence of Baroque and Empire styles on Turkish art began to appear in various cities (Tekirdağ, Izmir, Konya) after Istanbul.

There is no doubt that these structures, which formed the architectural character of Edirne under the influence of the Turkish Empire style that emerged within the history of Turkish art in the 18th century, hold a special place in the city's identity.

It is observed that these neo-classical (art nouveau) architectural works, social facilities, and buildings, which have left their mark on Edirne and become symbols of the city, have undergone changes over time, some are still in ruins due to neglect and indifference, while others have been properly restored and are in use.

The book is presented to you, our esteemed readers, with the belief that it will fill a significant gap in Edirne's urban identity and architecture and serve as a guide for those working in this field.
