Product Description
In our country, which boasts a rich architectural heritage, studies in regional architecture are unfortunately almost non-existent. This book presents the regional architectural studies we conducted in Elmalı between 1996 and 1999 with postgraduate students of Restoration from Yıldız Technical University's Faculty of Architecture and students from Yıldız Technical University's Vocational School's Restoration Program.
In the book, Prof. Dr. İlknur Özgen, who conducts archaeological studies in the region, introduces "The Cultural History of Elmalı and its Surroundings"; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Aynur Çiftçi examines "The Geographical, Administrative, and Social Structure of the District" and "Public Buildings"; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Gül Ünal discusses "The Physical Formation, Development, and Settlement Characteristics of Elmalı". Aydın Uçar describes "Life in a Winter House" and "Life in a Vineyard House"; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Rabia Özakın explains the establishment and construction of wooden granaries, using the "Şekerciler Granary" as an example, with illustrations. After generally describing "Elmalı Houses," Prof. Dr. Reha Günay examines various examples with plans and details; then interprets "Granaries, Beehives, and Lycian Tombs" by drawing similarities between them; and finally presents an English summary.
