These rare artifacts, reflecting the refined taste of Turkish-Islamic culture, are under threat of destruction, sometimes by earthquakes, sometimes by fires, and sometimes by unconscious demolition in the name of modernization. Therefore, to protect them and ensure they can be inherited by future generations, the General Directorate of Foundations meticulously restores and protects these works.
To contribute to these conservation efforts and raise awareness, this book compiles the vast majority of wooden mosques (Cantı type) and mosques with wooden ceilings and wooden pillars, predominantly located in provinces such as Ankara, Afyon, Amasya, Artvin, Eskişehir, İzmir, Konya, Kastamonu, Manisa, Sivas, Tokat, and Trabzon.
This work is the most comprehensive study on wooden mosques to date. Within the scope of this study, you will find 360 of the most exquisite examples of wooden mosques in this book.
