Product Description

The articles in this book are readings on the spatial meaning of the city, and all except for the article titled "A Lost Lexicon for the City, as Innocent as It Is; Human Scale" have been published in various journals since 2008. This article, however, is being published for the first time in this book. The title "Time and Space in the Shadowless City" was chosen because we believe it complements the content that the articles imbue the book with, as it contains clues to the sensory environment in the understanding of the past.

The axis of loss/remembrance of meanings in the architectural arrangement of the city contains different definitions. The articles in the book aim, in one respect, to present a route of inquiry into the aging face of fragments belonging to the city. Objective readings on the spatial meaning of the city have been handled specifically for the city of Sivas. In the urban change, which is tried to be read through the historical and physical anatomy of Sivas, spatial components (street, neighborhood, urban fabric) have been tried to be questioned in a conceptual dimension. In the boundless literary world of urban passion, very important writers, while skillfully describing the city with masterful touches, have mostly tried to depict it by prioritizing human elements, and some texts in this book include these tendencies in addition to architectural descriptions and interpretations.

The main theme of the texts in this book, in this context, is to delve into the underlying meaning beyond matter and technique. From the spatial function of the "house" in Ottoman civil architecture to the technical and material dimension of the city's spatial organization, different semantic connections handled in this context have been tried to be revealed. When classified within themselves, perhaps some of the articles may contain a more academic presentation. I want to clearly state that I do not intend to tire the reader, and that each has its own textual context and fiction.
