Rediscovering the Sun

Before the Industrial Revolution, we lived in harmony with our environment and nature. When we started building cities and factories, we fell into the delusion that we had all the power and could do whatever we wanted. Now, we are trapped in an environment of our own making, yet we are not content living in it. The way out of this is, once again, to return to nature.

In this book, we turn our eyes to nature and rediscover the Sun, our primary energy source. This discovery unfolds in three sections, edited by A. Selin Mutdoğan. The first section, called THE ESSENCE, describes the importance of solar energy from a historical perspective and explains solar-oriented passive systems that can be used in our buildings. The second section, APPLICATIONS, includes examples from ancient times and different geographies, as well as modern applications. Finally, in DIFFERENT PERSPECTIVES, the relationship of the Sun with different disciplines is examined, moving away from design. With this approach, we reach a source of information that shows us the journey the Sun has taken from the past to the future and what else will happen in the future.
