Rebel City

Following the books "Vesikalı Şehir" (2007) and "Şehrin İtirazı" (2015), the main questions of "İsyankâr Şehir", written with thematic continuity with them, are as follows: How can we understand the relationship between the spirit of the times and feminine subjectivity? How did women becoming the heroes of their own stories, "taking to the city" despite all the pressure on them, reflect in some films made after the Gezi resistance, and what did it change? Or, when taking to the city is not a solution, how do women question their situation when they are stuck in the city, in households? How can we consider women's intimate rebellion and the crisis of masculinity together? Feride Çiçekoğlu says the following about her book:

"Like the previous two books, 'İsyankâr Şehir' progresses by intertwining texts that look at films from the outside with my own stories about Istanbul spaces... This reminds me of how changing the location and time when writing a film script, or changing the camera's position during filming, alters the perspective. Different facets of the same characters, vastly different stories remaining from lives flowing side-by-side but without touching each other. In the end, a lifelong journey in which I could look at myself, and this trilogy, with another perspective."
