Vedad [Tek] Bey served as Sultan Reşad's chief architect for approximately five years during the Second Constitutional Era, a period when the dynasty's political and economic power dramatically shifted. II. Meşrutiyet’in Saray Mimarı M. Vedad [Tek] Bey (M. Vedad [Tek] Bey, Palace Architect of the Second Constitutional Era) aims to reveal how the new power balances brought about by the form of government reflected on architecture and restoration during Vedad Bey's tenure as chief architect, and the interventions carried out in dynastic structures in Istanbul between 1909 and 1914. It closely examines the boundaries and working conditions of Vedad Bey's role as "sermimar-ı hazret-i şehriyari" (chief architect of His Imperial Majesty), linking them to the construction and repair projects he prepared. Through drawings, exploration notebooks, and documents identified in detailed archive research, it also provides much new information about Vedad Bey's thoughts on architectural practices, his approach to historical buildings, and how he managed work processes.
