FOREWORD
Today, Spreadsheet software has become one of the most important elements of computer usage. Especially for personal computer users, it can be said that the most popular programs are Spreadsheet software. Since these software are "General Purpose," they provide a wide range of uses, from "Economic Analyses" to "Matrix Calculations," and thus, they are increasingly becoming an indispensable aid for all employees, from managers to technical staff and researchers.
Such software has been developed for organizing and using numerical and/or alphanumeric information in tabular form, allowing for all kinds of algebraic relationships between the cells of the table. The ability to easily copy and paste relevant formulas into other cells and to make desired changes in the table at any time has also been provided. Thus, a general-purpose model related to the problem at hand is developed and can be saved for application to similar problems in the future. In the 3rd generation Spreadsheet software widely used today, extensive features such as formatting, adding and deleting columns or rows, using conditional formulas (IF), communication with other tables and different types of files (Text, Word, etc.), graphical display, sorting, and querying are provided.
Thus, personal computer users can effectively use computers without needing extensive programming knowledge and sometimes achieve results that even professional programmers would be proud of. The impact of changes made to one or more data in the prepared table on the results can be observed instantly (graphically, if desired). This provides managers and technical staff, in particular, with the widest possible opportunity to compare various options (What If).
SCIENTIFIC AND TECHNICAL APPLICATIONS
As their names suggest, Spreadsheet Software can be used in all kinds of applications that can be organized in a tabular format. In all engineering fields, tabular calculation schemes (models) have been widely used in various applications, from "Price Analysis" to "Moment of Inertia Calculation." Spreadsheets can be used in all these applications, and thus, they are increasingly becoming indispensable aids for engineers. The use of Spreadsheet software by engineers initially involved topics such as Timesheets, Payroll, Economic Analyses, etc. Later, its use began and became widespread, especially in areas such as Price Analysis, Discovery, Quantity Survey, Progress Payments, Work Programs, Resource Allocation, and Cash Flow. Thus, both technical staff and managers have been freed from dependence on software that needs to be specially developed or provided (or on professional programmers) for various issues, and they have gained the opportunity to easily obtain quick and reliable results, along with their options, on all matters.
As is known, in both engineering and scientific research, numerical results are obtained using tabular calculation schemes in many applications, from solutions involving trigonometric or exponential functions to matrix methods.
