Tales from the Nonhuman: The Future of Architecture in the Posthuman Age

The book Stories from the Inhuman: The Future of Architecture in the Posthuman Age, edited by Nizam Onur Sönmez, Derya Uzal, Eda Yeyman, and Furkan Balcı, has been published by YEM Publishing.

This book is a compilation of the architectural and theoretical works produced by the "inhuman collective" between 2018 and 2025. As a period and theme, "posthuman" is interesting for its capacity to intertwine many significant issues, primarily "the questioning of humanity." Anxieties stemming from the unpredictability of social and environmental impasses, autonomous technologies powered by artificial intelligence and robotics, the increasing visibility of humanity's techno-natural hybridization through "bio" and "nano" technologies; and in the intellectual realm, the displacement of "individual autonomy" and "personal identity" as the basis of modern politics and ethics, leading to an endless questioning of identities and personal integrity, historically compel us to discuss the posthuman.

Since architectural culture has always encompassed related themes and discussions, architecture holds a special position in examining the posthuman. Consequently, the inhuman collective began to explore various questions and discussions gathered under the heading of the posthuman, asking: "How can we navigate the semantic geography of this strange posthuman world we inhabit using architectural tools? How do we imagine the spatial and vital organization of a techno-hybrid world, of which humans are also a part?"

Each of the parodic or serious proposals in the book "Stories from the Inhuman: The Future of Architecture in the Posthuman Age" is a quest to address these issues in their complexity, from different perspectives, and in a multifaceted way...
