Product Description
The Istanbul Architecture Guide, prepared as a five-volume set, has been conceived as an effective method for learning about this city. The structures, large and small, architectural organisms, organizations, and narratives contained within this city, from its strictest realities to its wildest legends, its history and geography, have been examined and questioned, and a new model different from previous Istanbul city guides has been sought. The Istanbul Architecture Guide consists of four books and a Historical Peninsula and Bosphorus Map.
The Guide’s:
Book 1 contains introductory texts about historical and architectural structures dating up to the 1930s in the Historical Peninsula, covering the walled city, Eyüp-Silahtarağa, Bakırköy, and Yeşilköy;
Book 2 contains introductory texts about historical and architectural structures dating up to the 1930s in the Galata area, covering Karaköy, Galata, Pera, Taksim, Tophane, Fındıklı, Dolapdere, Kasımpaşa, Hasköy, Sütlüce, Kurtuluş, Şişli, Nişantaşı, Teşvikiye, Maçka, Beşiktaş-Yıldız, Mecidiyeköy, and Ayazağa-Maslak;
Book 3 contains introductory texts about the Bosphorus and Islands, covering the eastern and western shores of the Bosphorus, extending from Paşalimanı and Ortaköy to the Anatolian and Rumelian Lighthouses, as well as Üsküdar, Kadıköy, and the Islands between Fenerbahçe and Bostancı;
Book 4, titled "Modern and Contemporary," contains introductory texts about the Historical Peninsula, Galata-Pera, Taksim, Şişli, Mecidiyeköy, Levent, Maslak, Bosphorus, Kadıköy, Islands, Bakırköy-Yeşilköy, Merter, İkitelli regions, and structures of historical and architectural significance located on the city's outer periphery, such as Kurtköy;
Book 5, the Historical Peninsula and Bosphorus Map, contains two maps: one at a 1:10000 scale covering the Istanbul Historical Peninsula and Galata, and the other at a 1:20000 scale covering the Bosphorus.
Selected structures are marked on the maps with different colors indicating different periods, and they are listed in the book's index both alphabetically and by their identified numbers on the maps.
