Calligrapher Tombstones of Istanbul: Transient World

If you visit old cemeteries from the Ottoman period, you will see new graves with Arabic script. Have no doubt, there were actually gravestones in those places written with old script. These stones are being destroyed with great insensitivity. Cemeteries, starting from the 15th century, are important and reliable sources that shed light on Istanbul's social life, the demographic characteristics of its inhabitants, its understanding of art, its beliefs and customs, and reflect the culture of the people. With such arbitrary and indiscriminate plundering of cemeteries, it is becoming increasingly impossible to research gravestones to gather information about the past, to research gravestones to gather information.

What is being destroyed is actually history. These cultural assets from centuries ago are being brutally destroyed one by one due to ignorance, indifference, and disrespect. Plunderers are crude, thick-skinned, and cruel. Therefore, there is no other option but to identify and register existing gravestones and document them with photographs. One of the reasons for preparing this small book is the concern that these too will someday be plundered and destroyed.
