Product Description
This book, which attempts to discuss Byzantine architecture and the art of painting related to architecture in Istanbul (Constantinople), the capital of an empire that lasted for over a millennium, presents an artistic development evaluated against its cultural background. With this book, we aimed to create a guide for those interested in the subject, much like we did with our book titled “Suriçi Galata”, but this time focusing on “Suriçi Byzantine”. While the book highlights Byzantine art in Istanbul, it also draws attention to contemporary Byzantine artworks outside of Istanbul. The result is a guide-book that attempts to evaluate “Byzantine within Istanbul” in the context of cultural and art history.
