Product Description
The increase in motor vehicles, which accelerated in developed countries in the 1950s, continues today in almost every country. This increase in the number of motor vehicles is more pronounced in developing countries, including our country. In addition to this numerical increase, the growth in speeds and weights for freight vehicles has brought significant changes to highway standards and construction techniques. Meanwhile, traffic congestion, especially in cities, and the search for solutions to traffic accidents have increased the importance of traffic engineering alongside highway engineering. This book, prepared as a textbook for civil engineering undergraduate students, prioritizes reflecting these developments.
The book consists of thirteen chapters. The first six chapters provide the basic information required for highway planning and design. In the following 7th, 8th, and 9th chapters, route selection, plan and profile preparation, and horizontal curves are discussed in detail, providing students with information on how to prepare and implement a highway project.
Chapters 10 and 11 of the book are devoted to urban road planning and at-grade intersections, which are of particular importance in terms of traffic congestion and accidents. While Chapter 12, titled "Infrastructure," deals with highway construction, the final Chapter 13 examines the important issue of drainage for the life and maintenance of highways and provides practical examples.
