Product Description
Urban sociology encompasses sociological studies pertaining to various social groups, institutions, relationship networks, socialized spaces within the city—in short, to urban society. As such, it holds increasing importance as a sub-discipline of sociology. Urban sociology also strives to understand the city within the context of modernization and globalization processes, alongside the economic-political system in which it is embedded. This book proceeds within this framework. In addition to urban sociology from the West, the urban studies, concepts, and theories of Turkish sociologists have been selected and presented. Furthermore, the urban conditions and problems of our country have been addressed wherever possible. Topics such as the characteristics of cities, social institutions, examples of social stratification, urban models, urban governance, etc., in ancient Turks, Seljuks, and Ottomans have been included. This approach was adopted based on the belief that sociology can assume a meaningful function primarily by addressing its own social issues and problems.
