Product Description
YEM Yayın has published Hüseyin Kaptan’a Armağan - Kent ve Planlama (A Tribute to Hüseyin Kaptan - City and Planning), a book prepared to commemorate and introduce to future generations Professor Hüseyin Kaptan, one of the pioneers of City and Regional Planning, Urban Design, and Urban Planning in Turkey.
The book City and Planning consists of works by esteemed academics and designers who worked, planned, and produced together with "Kaptan Hoca" (Teacher Kaptan), or whose paths crossed with him. Prepared to leave a lasting academic trace related to Hüseyin Kaptan, known for his productive, creative, and sharing personality, the book also aims to meet the need for a reference source in the field of planning in Turkey.
Editors İclal Dinçer and Zeynep Enlil explain the reasons for preparing such a work for publication and the content of the book as follows:
This book is a tribute to Prof. Hüseyin Kaptan, who left his mark on the history of planning in Turkey; who was as much a practitioner as he was a producer of original science; who was a good teacher but always knew how to be a student, always seeking and encouraging the search for new knowledge, universal yet local; who dreamed of creating free, democratic, egalitarian, and just lives and cities for everyone. "I will live until I am 100, I have much more to do," said Kaptan Hoca, and he did what he loved, and he did it with love. Like a Don Quixote, he fought alone to the end for his beliefs; at times, he paved the way for collective production in the field of planning, pioneered it, touched many people, changed some things. He opened an era and knew how to close it... He left behind what he knew he couldn't change (people, institutions, the system) and never looked back... No matter how much of a fighter he was, when the time came, he knew how to take his hat and leave...
The book opens with three special articles: The writings of Emre Aysu and Zekai Görgülü, who worked together for many years, are very valuable both as a personal documentation for "Kaptan Hoca" and for providing clues to Turkey's planning history. Dear Doğu Kaptan always supported us in the preparation of this book; he stood by us with an article that blended respect and admiration for a father and a master.
