Product Description

The issue of cities and urbanization has today become an increasingly debated topic with its social, political, and economic aspects; this is why Henri Lefebvre's works are increasingly referenced and their importance is growing. *The Urban Revolution* is Lefebvre's first work to place 'space' at the center of social analysis. In this respect, it is a fundamental text for sociology, Marxist analysis, and radical politics, as well as for studies on space and cities.

Lefebvre, starting with the hypothesis of "the urbanization of society as a whole," argues that the concept of the city, which has always been considered within the rural-urban dichotomy, has disappeared. He proposes that the emerging "urban society" should be seen as a complex area of research requiring new interpretations and approaches, that the city should be at the center of social analysis and practices, and that it should not be limited to the problem of urbanization. By placing it at the center not only of consumption and reproduction but also of capitalist production, he detaches the socio-political struggle from the production-factory pairing and carries it to the production-city scale and vision. Rejecting the cold and modernist approach to urbanization/city planning based on commodification, market, and bureaucratization, he emphasizes the vibrant experiences of the city's inhabitants.

Against the myth of the city, standardized forms, and formalism, he envisions an Urban Revolution where unique social relations, self-determination, and individual creativity come to the forefront.
