Urban Heterotopia

A groundbreaking work from Stavros Stavrides to rethink the urban experience and struggle that surrounds our daily lives: Urban Heterotopia.

Stavrides does not limit himself to theoretical examinations, ranging from current factors in the metropolis's structure to exceptional situations, from Walter Benjamin's flâneur to various urban metaphors, from the theatricality in relations with the other to the spatial dimensions of Foucault's analyses of power. He also intervenes in current political issues such as the Zapatistas and the December uprising in Athens, within the context of heterotopic experiences where other spatial possibilities emerge in the city. We believe that reflecting on the question Stavrides poses in the afterword he wrote for the Turkish edition of the book, in the context of the Gezi Park resistance, is important for imagining alternatives to today's suffocating capitalist urban experience:
