Urban Transportation

In our country's intensive urbanization process, the design and planning of transportation networks are among the primary urban problems. The book begins with the historical development of transportation technology, and continues with a section explaining the relationship between road network design, which directly affects quality of life, and urban functions such as city centers, housing, and industry, as well as road hierarchy. This section also includes design principles for bicycle and pedestrian paths, in an era where environmental values are paramount.

In the third chapter, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ela Babalık Sutcliffe discusses the types of public transportation proposed as solutions to transportation problems in large cities, and the planning and design of transportation systems. The fourth chapter addresses transportation planning, covering the four-stage planning process, determination of travel demand, modal distribution, and assigning trips to the transportation system. In the final chapter, Prof. Dr. Cüneyt Elker uses graphics to explain what type and method of transportation policies local governments, aiming to create livable cities, should adopt.
