The first part of this study, which was initiated to reiterate the importance of preserving rural architectural heritage as a significant component of cultural heritage and to seek answers to what can be done in this regard, discusses cultural heritage and architectural heritage concepts in all their dimensions and conservation approaches. In the second and third parts, Sürmene and Traditional Sürmene Aksu Houses, which are unique examples of rural architecture in the Eastern Black Sea Region, are introduced. In the fourth part, rural development and rural tourism are discussed as a proposal for the preservation of rural architectural heritage, and in the last part, approaches and project proposals for the reuse of traditional houses in the Sürmene Aksu region with new functions to serve rural tourism are presented.
