Mass Culture Cinema and B-Movies

Nur Onur, whom we know from her television programs and who took us on a detailed journey through the world of local Haute-Couture with her book "Fashion is Contagious," illustrating it with examples, is now, as a cinema enthusiast and (former) student, publishing a pioneering book on a topic not widely researched in our country. "B" cinema; that is, low-budget, cheap cinema that does not use star actors – but paves the way for future stars – and is often serialized. Although B cinema, which supports big-budget A cinema – and, as a backbone of genre cinema which is increasingly gaining academic recognition and a place in popular culture – lost much of its former importance, power, and productivity with the advent of television, it holds a very interesting place in the history of world cinema, especially American cinema, and is considered a mirror of an industry. In this work, Nur Onur not only comparatively explains "what" B cinema is, but also outlines the anatomy of genre cinema, focuses on examples, and introduces us to its directors. This pioneering book in our cinema literature – along with the views of other writers – serves as a resource for researchers and provides first-hand material for genre cinema enthusiasts and fans of cult films.
