Product Description

This book is one of the first texts on Cubism. It was published in 1913.

This second edition, published years after its first edition in our language went out of print, is more than a document of art history; it is also a testament to a poet's courage. When Cubism emerged, almost all art critics and historians opposed this movement. Apollinaire, setting aside what was deemed truthful, sided with the Cubists who championed the aesthetic within them.

Although Apollinaire gives center stage to Pablo Picasso in this work, he does not abandon the artists who left their mark on every era of painting and sculpture: Georges Braque, Jean Metzinger, Albert Gleizes, Juan Gris, Fernand Léger, Francis Picabia, Marcel Duchamp, Marie Laurencin, and the sculptor Duchamp-Villon together establish Cubism.

Guillaume Apollinaire, the renowned poet of 20th-century poetry and French language, justly gained separate fame with his book, "The Cubist Painters."

This small book contributed to the development of one of the most important movements influencing contemporary art.
