Global Climate Change, Bioenergy

It should be considered that the environmental cost of natural global warming is measured in trillions of dollars. A UN Report states that the use of biomass in combined heat and power generation would be one of the best and cheapest options to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

The amount of energy stored in the form of energy through photosynthesis is approximately ten times the world's annual energy requirement. Forest trees constitute more than 90% of biomass. While the world's forests currently meet industrial wood requirements, they can also make significant contributions to the energy needs of human communities.

According to the FAO 2010 Report, the amount of carbon sequestered by forests in Turkey is estimated to be 2 billion tons. The functions of forests in carbon sequestration and air pollution reduction are important not only nationally but also globally.

The share of clean energy in Turkey's total energy production should be increased. Since energy is a vital issue in our country as it is all over the world, the highest possible utilization of domestic, clean energy sources, independent of foreign dependency, should be achieved to have self-sufficient, continuous, reliable, and economical electricity.

With the swift enactment of the Renewable Energy Sources (RES) Bill, which aims to encourage energy investments in Turkey, the number of combined biomass heat and power plants and wood pellet production facilities to be established by the private sector could rapidly increase, making significant contributions to the country's energy production potential.
