Product Description

One of the most important distinguishing features of the modern era is the design of geographies and regions on a large scale, and of cities and spaces on a small scale. Today's cities, which are subjected to criticism in many categories such as ethnicity, gender, identity, and belief, in addition to social class, have been opened to discussion for new spatial designs with new social movements and local organizations. These discussions, which are made for the transformation of our world for the better, are of great economic, political, and social importance. In the first part of this work, the author addresses the conceptual framework elements such as the definition, character, and agency of space, and introduces the field of economic space and economic geography. In the second part, the author discusses the development of economic geography in Anglo-American and Western European literature, followed by the institutional economic geography approach, and examines the effects of the Marxist approach and capitalist institutional organization together. In the fourth part, the author discusses the evolutionary economic geography approach, which is the most current contribution to the field, and examines concepts such as path dependency and bifurcation specific to this approach. In the last part, the author examines the convergence of geography and economics disciplines through "new economic geography" models, and brings together center-periphery, urban system, industrial concentration models, and their criticisms. Geography, as a discipline, has been the subject of important studies since the second half of the 20th century as both a cause and a result of economic development. This work, titled Space and Economy, which examines, criticizes, and synthesizes these studies, makes an important contribution to the Turkish literature in this field.
