YEM Yayın, a publisher of books on architecture, engineering, design, culture, art, etc., has released the long-awaited new edition of its book Vertical Circulation Devices STAIRS.

Vertical Circulation Devices Stairs, prepared by Prof. Abdullah Sarı, has remained one of the fundamental reference books for architectural and design education in Turkey for over 50 years.

This book, which examines "stairs" as one of the most important building components, provides the most essential information on the subject for everyone who designs and produces structures, especially students and instructors of architecture, interior architecture, and civil engineering. For this reason, the book minimizes application examples and mostly explains the main factors affecting the formation, dimensioning, and arrangement of stairs.

Deciding how to design building components, what precautions to take against various factors, and how to achieve a rational solution by choosing the most suitable option among alternatives requires a scientific method. However, students, in particular, should not memorize the details of building components but rather acquire the ability to consult resources when necessary and grasp the basic knowledge in this field to the extent that they will not need to recall it during the design phase.
Prepared to serve this purpose, the book presents stairs in a simple language, covering a spectrum from their definition to their types; from step and landing dimensions to their width and slope; from load-bearing parts, cladding, and railing constructions to their structural features such as stone, reinforced concrete, wood, and metal; and from railing, handrail, and infill constructions to their graphical representations.

Prof. ABDULLAH SARI
Abdullah Sarı, born in Develi in 1921, graduated from Afyon High School in 1940 and ITU Faculty of Architecture in 1946. He was appointed as an assistant at the Department of Building Science in the same faculty, passed his proficiency exam in 1949, became an associate professor in 1958, a full professor in 1968, and retired in 1988. During his 42-year tenure, Abdullah Sarı served as a faculty member at institutions such as ITU Faculty of Architecture, Maçka Technical School, Maçka Faculty of Architecture, Işık School of Architecture and Engineering, Trabzon University Faculty of Architecture, and Ankara School of Architecture and Engineering. He also held administrative positions such as Branch Chief, Department Head, Head of Division, Director, and Dean at these institutions; and won honorable mentions, second, and first prizes in architectural project competitions he entered with his colleagues.
In addition to Vertical Circulation Devices Stairs, Abdullah Sarı's works Exterior Walls in Residential Buildings and Aluminum in Building Construction have also been published.
