Mimar Sinan: An Aesthetic Analysis

The approach observed in Erzen's book, which seeks to move Sinan's architecture beyond functionalist and structure-centered explanations that could be called Modernist, heralds the beginning of a new era. Undoubtedly, Erzen is not alone in this regard, but it can be said that he is among the minority who are preparing the historiographical future. Unlike their predecessors, this minority group will not create a new Sinan myth but will unravel the mythical webs woven around him. This book, however, is not a final word in this direction but rather one of the early contributions to a long analytical process.
