Contrarian Thoughts on Architecture

We are publishing Paul Valéry's work Paradoxical Thoughts on the Architect, which he penned as a twenty-year-old young man, along with its rare French text, Paradoxe sur l’Architecte.

In this work, Valéry begins to see the architect as a creator and architecture as a creative process. Therefore, we believe that this youthful writing will be beneficial when read alongside Eupalinos.

We are presented with a Valéry who, through the mouth of Eupalinos, says, "I believe that by building, I also built myself."
