Architectural Updates

This selection, which may seem accidental, came about when I started reflecting on change. My reflections on the colliding, overlapping waves of change, which heighten contradictions and tensions around us, first led me to re-evaluate my professional perception. I began to think it was important to differentiate between cosmetic changes, changes that are extensions of our past, and truly revolutionary changes among all the transformations occurring in every field. However, no single metaphor seemed to explain all that was happening; it only seemed to uncover a part of the truth. In this situation, rather than addressing architectural change generally, it was necessary to analyze it and prioritize its paradigms that are important for understanding change. Furthermore, instead of articles seeking correct answers to wrong questions, I wanted this compilation to contain articles that asked and explored the right questions, thereby bringing them to the agenda with a new perspective. The questions and observations needed to be fresh, pertinent, and current.

Aware that no knowledge is complete and no metaphor can be entirely comprehensive, I did not create a deterministic fantasy. This would also not be consistent with the evolution of humanity. What societies are experiencing is a serious cultural transformation. While rigid Modern cultures have declined amidst disharmony and disintegration, the social movements that began in the 1960s and intensified at approximately ten-year intervals are indicators of today's rising, new, flexible, continuously evolving culture. All the architectural texts here, written with this awareness, are open to correction and reconstruction, liberating the present moment and encouraging cognitive development. Many more projections of the third wave we are experiencing in architecture could certainly be identified and discussed. We might even have overlooked the most beneficial ones. We plan to rethink these and present you with another series of articles next time, dear architecture readers. For now, we wish you enjoyable reading and eagerly await your criticisms.
