On Architectural Space

Philippe Boudon's classic work, "On Architectural Space," is now available in our language in a new edition revised by the author and enriched with commentary. This work, subtitled "An Essay on the Epistemology of Architecture," is based on the thesis that architectural design can be a subject of scientific research in architecture. Vitruvius, Popper, Bachelard, Zevi, Focillon, Simon, Merleau-Ponty, Viollet-le-Duc, Le Corbusier, Wittkower, Rasmussen, Panofsky, and many more have come with their own spaces to the place where designed space meets true space. "Bachelard distinguishes between space as it is experienced every day and the space constructed to understand this space (...)" "(...) that architectural space must exist simply because it is designed (...)"
