Product Description

Article 63 of our 1961 Constitution states that "it is the government's responsibility to protect cultural, natural, and historical assets." It is its duty, it says. I go into the classroom and ask my students: Do you know what it is that we protect? They say "a trust," they say "an inheritance." This is neither a trust nor an inheritance. This is something else. Why do I reject "trust"? Latin speakers say "patrimoine." We are neither Latin, nor Chinese, nor English. We speak Turkish. Our words should also be Turkish. We need to express what we are trying to protect with a Turkish word. The word "varlık" (asset/being) fits very well. The things we protect are assets. They are natural, historical, cultural assets. What is an asset? It is a living thing. Because they too are born, live, and die. If you take good care of them, they won't die; they can live up to 90 years, like me, for example.
