"In Beyoğlu, Istanbul, there was a prominent cultural venue. We had the opportunity to listen to many famous soloists. Those who came during that period, David Oistrakh, Alfred Cortot, Gaspar Cassadó, Wilhelm Kempff, were musicians we admired. Listening to them truly enriched us greatly. Besides architectural education, one should not neglect other artistic activities. It is absolutely essential to be interested in music, in addition to plastic arts. I believe it is essential for an architect to appreciate classical music; an architect, in particular, should know how to listen to Bach. They need to feel that mathematical texture in his work. These are truly factors that will greatly influence one's personal development."
