Thinking Dreaming Architecture

YEM Yayın, which publishes books on architecture, engineering, design, culture, art, etc., has released the long-awaited new edition of its book titled THINKING AND DREAMING ARCHITECTURE.
Thinking and Dreaming Architecture is a book prepared as a cross-section of Sema Soygeniş's practical and academic experiences, primarily for young people who have just started or are considering starting architectural education, and for anyone who wants to understand "what architecture is."
"Being able to think about architecture should be a starting point that aspiring architects aim to reach during and after their education. Architecture, which began with the act of sheltering, has developed in connection with the history of civilization, reached the present day, and continues with new expansions. In this process, trying to understand and discuss the building, the form, and the intellectual dimension that constitutes it, is a topic that should remain on the agenda of architects who realize the architectural act and everyone who experiences it," says Sema Soygeniş. With this aim, in her book, she examines concepts related to architecture and architectural space in the context of the main principles of architecture, using a detailed and understandable language.
The book, which begins by seeking an answer to the question "What is architecture?", discusses and interprets concepts that can shed light on this question, such as space, geometry, form and order, aesthetics, light, movement, function, material, structure, and context, by relating them to "architecture" through selected examples. The book includes numerous photographs from various geographies, as well as drawing stages in the process of architectural design from idea to reality, to some extent materialize conceptual explanations and to better perceive what is explained intellectually and visually.
Sema Soygeniş expresses the importance of the concept of "thinking about architecture," which also forms the basis of her book, with these words: "Across the world, the importance of life and urban culture, in particular, is being discussed in various dimensions. This is also true for Turkey. When we look at the limited contribution of architects and urban designers to the design of cities, it becomes clear that those who should care the most about cities are the city dwellers themselves. Therefore, it is important for everyone, architect or not, to acquire the ability to perceive, question, and interpret their living environment. WHO IS PROF. DR. SEMA SOYGENİŞ?

Sema Soygeniş completed her secondary and high school education at Robert College. She graduated from Istanbul Technical University, Faculty of Architecture (B. Arch., M. Arch, PhD) and the University at Buffalo, School of Architecture and Planning (M. Arch). Soygeniş pursued her architectural studies in the USA between 1986 and 1995, and established her own architectural studio in 1990. She continues her professional work as a faculty member (Prof.Dr.) at Bahçeşehir University, Faculty of Architecture and Design.

Her projects, published as monographs under the titles Yapılar+Projeler 1982-1997, Yapılar+Projeler 2, have been exhibited in various professional environments in different countries.
