Product Description
In this compilation, we aimed to address the topic of proportion in architecture through three main texts. Eugène-Emmanuel Viollet-le-Duc, in his voluminous work titled Dictionnaire raisonné de l’architecture française du XIe au XVIe siècle, presents his perspective on the problem of proportion. In 1883, August Thiersch published his study titled “Proportion in Architecture.” He discusses E. E. Viollet-le Duc's approach, published fifteen years prior, and argues that analogy is the foundation of proportion in architecture. Six years after the publication of this text, Swiss art historian Heinrich Wölfflin applies this theory, which he praised, to Ancient Greek temples, and Renaissance churches and palazzos.
