Rhythm in Architecture

In this theoretical work titled "Rhythm in Architecture," published in the first half of the 20th century, Moisei Yakovlevich Ginzburg traces the concept of rhythm as the founding principle of architectural composition.

Ginzburg, a prominent figure in Constructivism, treats rhythm like a music lesson, breaking it down into its fundamental components, associating them with architectural elements he perceives as notes, and then synthesizing them, much like a symphony... He demonstrates a broad architectural culture when analyzing ancient and Renaissance buildings. He never delves into the functions of the buildings, examining architectural works solely from the perspective of their rational and rhythmic compositions. He takes the first step toward showcasing architecture.
