Otto Koloman Wagner, a renowned architect who had solidified his position within Vienna's grand bourgeoisie, shocked a wide audience in 1896 with his work "Moderne Architektur" (Modern Architecture), in which he fiercely attacked the aesthetic understanding of the time. Wagner, who carefully observed the innovations taking place across the Atlantic and in Europe, abandoned the conservative path that had underpinned his entire professional life with this text. He turned his attention to the life and needs of modern people.
