Product Description
As neoliberal attacks increased worldwide, new forms of resistance and collective opposition also emerged. Movements of occupation and commoning, which dispel the atmosphere of despair created by wars and austerity policies, are increasing day by day. Therefore, it has become inevitable to ponder the historical and conceptual foundations that will form the infrastructure of the new spatial politics emerging with these new movements. Today, the potential inherent in urban commoning, where the rigid, divisive, exclusionary, and fenced spatial understandings are replaced by threshold spaces, porosity, and permeability, is gaining increasing importance.
Stavros Stavrides, who both conducts academic research on the city and acts as an activist in urban commoning movements, treats space not as a commodity, a fenced-off place, or an area under state administration, but as commons harboring potentials and clues for another world. Stavrides embarks on establishing the theoretical basis for spatial commoning experiences, which were witnessed in our country with the Gezi uprising and left indelible traces in many people's lives, and questions the conditions for the existence of common spaces that will continue by preserving their qualities.
