WHO IS ERNST NEUFERT?
The author of the book, the famous German architect Ernst Neufert, was born on March 15, 1900, in Freyburg an der Unstrut, Germany. He is a creator of building standards. Neufert, who studied at the Bauhaus in Weimar, worked with Walter Gropius between 1924 and 1926. Between 1926 and 1929, he taught at various educational institutions in Weimar. In the same years, he worked with architect O. Bartning. Starting in 1945, he taught at Darmstadt Technical University. Although Ernst Neufert designed numerous industrial structures and settlements, he is primarily known for his divisions on dimensions, proportions, and arrangement methods in plural structures. Besides Neufert Architects' Data, his educational book titled Bauentwurfslehre (Fundamentals of Building Design) examines various building types such as schools, hospitals, and hotels, along with all their spaces, the forms and dimensions of the objects within them, and the areas required during their use, by combining and analyzing them individually in terms of conditions and internal arrangements. In his work Bauordnungslehre (Knowledge of Building Regulations), he addresses dimensions and proportions, especially in the building manufacturing industry. These two important works have since been translated into many languages and have become fundamental reference sources for architects worldwide.
