New York 1990-2003

Arredamento Mimarlık did not create an architectural guide for any city other than Berlin that covered only a small 13-year period. Berlin's intense and sometimes unreal architectural boom after reunification led to the birth of an architectural laboratory. This gave the city's built environment a quality that made it worthy of examination within the framework of global "boutique architecture" events, and extremely open to criticism. As surreal as Berlin is, New York is interesting because it defines an equally real architectural world. It can easily be said that all the fundamental characteristics of a global city were first defined by looking at New York. In fact, New York seems to be the most striking of the three cities (the others being Tokyo and London) where changes such as new enrichment, new centralization, new cosmopolitanization, and new luxury can be observed, and the one that most clearly points to the future. Its last decade is more exciting and eventful than half a century in any other Western city.
