School buildings are the first social/public spaces a child encounters. We spend our most critical years of childhood and early youth at school. Yet, unfortunately, schools have been structures whose design and aesthetics have been given very little thought. We can clearly see this reality when we look at the design and aesthetics of thousands of school and educational buildings in Turkey. On the other hand, the changes and transformations in every aspect of life are multi-directionally affecting and forcing the transformation of educational environments; new requirements necessitate educational environments to have new functions.

This book has been prepared to compile knowledge and experience regarding the design and aesthetics of educational buildings in Turkey and around the world. It aims to share insights that will encourage educators, entrepreneurs, administrators, politicians, architects, and engineers to reflect once again on educational buildings.

This humble work, contributed to by teachers, school administrators, education administrators, academics, and architects, will open a door for those seeking insights into school design and aesthetics.
