Road Design with Examples

The aim of these lecture notes is to elaborate on the concepts and drawing-related problems that students frequently encounter in their transportation projects. Upon completing these lecture notes, students will be able to read contour maps, identify highway elements along a route, and interpret transportation projects. The objective is to enable them to apply highway standards, place appropriate highway routes, design horizontal curves, design vertical curves, prepare cross-sections, and calculate super-elevation. A sample project is presented, with its stages explained in detail. Especially challenging topics such as "zero polygon," "transition curves," "widening," "volume table," and "earthwork distribution" are presented with thorough explanations. This book considers the most commonly used definitions in the literature, and the most current sources for these definitions are cited. Additionally, some definitions are clarified with examples for better understanding. To address potential variations in Turkish translations, the English equivalent for each definition is also provided in parentheses. I dedicate my book to our martyrs, veterans, and their families.
