High Architect Engineer Ekrem Hakkı Ayverdi, who left permanent works as a restorer, collector, and architectural historian for the preservation and protection of Ottoman architectural culture, was commemorated in 2014 with a series of events on the occasion of the thirtieth anniversary of his death. Within the scope of these events, an International Ottoman Architectural Culture symposium was organized on October 23-24, 2014, at the Taşkışla campus of the Engineering School (today ITU), from which Ekrem Hakkı Bey graduated in 1920, with the support of the Kubbealtı Academy Culture and Art Foundation and Istanbul Technical University. In this symposium, the past and present of Ottoman architectural history studies, along with various aspects and topics of Ottoman architecture, were discussed through twenty-two presentations. The twelve articles in this book consist of some of the papers presented at this symposium, either in their revised article form by their authors or as different new studies.
